Project INTERSECT is a training program for PhD students supported by the US Department of Education; Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Service to prepare 9 speech-language pathology related-services leaders with expertise in school speech-language pathology, with an emphasis on understanding special education climate, policies, and procedures, who can act effectively in faculty positions in institutions of higher education as researchers and preparers of public school speech-language pathologists (SLPs). In their academic-research careers, INTERSECT scholars will (a) increase the quantity of high-quality research evidence on how to improve the outcomes for high-need, linguistically-diverse students with disabilities receiving school SLP services, and (b) provide exemplary teaching that provides high-quality preparation of undergraduate and graduate pre-service SLP students as well as (c) in-service professionals who provide effective interventions and services for high-need, linguistically-diverse students with disabilities.
